Every Levi's Fit Number Compared
I wrote a piece several months ago about the meaning behind Levi’s fit numbers. What’s even more confusing than what Levi’s numbers mean is what the difference is between each Levi’s fit number.
A lot of readers have asked us to write pieces comparing different Levi’s jeans, like Levi’s 511 vs Levi’s 510, both available on Amazon. We’ve done one better: this post compares almost every Levi’s jean to one another.
How’d we do it? I personally measured hundreds of pairs of Levi’s jeans.
What possessed me to do that? I was fed up with spending so much time trying jeans on just to be disappointed by the waist size — I need to get that right because I’m a man with a tiny 26.5” natural waist — or to feel uncomfortable with the look, feel, or fit. As the nerd that I am, I began compiling my own database of detailed pant information — measurements, material properties, available colors — from dozens of brands. So here I am…
Why did I make a new piece on the differences between Levi’s fit numbers when I already made a post on the secrets behind Levi’s numerology? One simple reason: Levi’s fit numbers don’t tell you anything about how Levi’s fit changes from jean to jean.
For example, Levi’s describes their 501 Original Fit, 505 Regular Fit, and 514 Straight Fit (Amazon links) as straight cut and regular fit. Does that mean they are all the same jean? Of course not! But unless you try each of them on (or scroll below to read the rest of our ultimate Levi’s comparison guide), there’s no way to know what makes each of them fit differently.
Now, Levi’s makes a lot of jeans. That means this is a MASSIVE post. I suggest you use our table of contents to pick your favorite Levi’s fit number to get started.
One last thing before we begin: we only compare men’s Levi’s to other men’s Levi’s, and same for women’s. Be on the lookout in a week or two for our post on how to convert between men’s and women’s pant sizes, and why it’s hard. Lastly, all men’s pants we draw are size W32xL32, and all women’s pants are size 4 (27W) Regular (30L).
Without further ado…

Levi's 502 Taper Fit
About the 502 Taper Fit
The 502's are the perfect jeans for a modern look without looking too skinny or slim. The seat (ie the hip through waist) is designed with a classic, straight look in mind. On the other hand, the legs taper for a slimmer look than you would find in a traditional pair of slacks.

Levi's 527 Slim Boot Cut
About the 527 Slim Boot Cut
The 527 jeans are slim like the 511's, but with a twist. Boot cut jeans have more room around the leg opening to, like the name suggests, go around a pair of boots. Don't worry: you need not wear the 527's with boots at all. They style well with almost any pair of shoes. The extra room at the bottom creates a more classic look than more modern slim jeans.

The 569's are the most relaxed fit men's jeans that Levi's offers. That means more space in the leg opening, thighs, and seat (the area above the crotch seam). These are perfect for men with larger thighs and muscular builds who are looking for a straight fit, or for men who never want to give in to the skinny jeans fad of yesteryear.

Levi's Classic Straight
About the Classic Straight
The classic straight is one of the few women's jeans Levi's makes that is truly a straight cut, regular fit jean. The classic straight jeans have plenty of room throughout the leg, including the thigh, and a little extra room around the hips to round out the style. No matter if you're curvy or straight shaped, a pair of classic straight jeans will create a narrow, straight silhouette on your body.
