Top 5 Loose Fitting Women's Jeans
The past few months, I’ve found it shocking the number of women who have told me they want to buy loose-fitting pants, but can’t find them easily.
Even though skinny jeans started going out of style in 2018, it is hard to find pants that are fit loosely everywhere, like boyfriend cut and relaxed fit jeans.
We’ve put together a list of our top five loose-fitting women’s jeans. We update it every month so that when brands change how their clothes fit, our list changes too.
Before we share our list with you, I wanted to dig into why most women’s jeans are tight fitting. As someone who enjoys flared jeans as much as my favorite skinny jeans, it’s a question I’ve personally been wanting to know for a while.
Why are most women’s jeans skinny?
Most women’s jeans are tight fitting because women come in more shapes and sizes than men do.
Brands design pants to fit their average customer. Here’s the problem: customers of all body shapes, from pear shaped to apple shaped to hourglass shaped, shop at most brands.
Designing a line of pants is hard and expensive, so brands learned to take the easy way out: make clothes that are stretchy and tight to fit almost any body shape.
For example, some Levi’s 710 jeans can stretch up to 60% more than their actual measurements.
The cons of only buying tight fitting jeans
Tight fitting skinny jeans are perfect for brands because almost any customer can fit in them.
Tight fitting skinny jeans are not perfect for shoppers themselves for a number of reasons.
Women do not want to always show off all of their curves. Tighter jeans should be a style choice, not the only choice
Jeans that are too stretchy are more fragile than jeans that are mostly made of cotton. Have you ever had a pair of jeans that stretched out or ripped after several months of wear? That’s what happens when your jeans are too stretchy. The material is weaker than cotton mixed with a little bit of stretch material, such as elastane.
Tight fitting jeans are sometimes too tight. Many women I’ve talked to feel like they cannot buy jeans because they have big thighs or curvy butts. Even with all the stretch in the world, your jeans will feel uncomfortable if the pants you wear aren’t right for your body shape.
How to buy loose fitting jeans?
The good news is: loose fitting jeans are becoming trendy. They’re easy to wear because there’s plenty of room to fit women of all shapes and sizes.
The question is: where do I buy them and how do I know they’ll fit the way I want?
Our list below answers the first question.
The second question has a simple answer: relaxed fit women’s jeans have more room around the hips. The more room around the hips, the looser the jeans are.
Many women’s jeans claim to be straight cut, like AG The Harper, but are still really tight. That’s because they don’t have enough room in the hip measurement to look looser on your figure.
That’s why the list we put together picks out women’s jeans that have lots of room in the hips to create a baggier look than tight-fitting jeans do.

About the Pant
The classic straight is one of the few women's jeans Levi's makes that is truly a straight cut, regular fit jean. The classic straight jeans have plenty of room throughout the leg, including the thigh, and a little extra room around the hips to round out the style. No matter if you're curvy or straight shaped, a pair of classic straight jeans will create a narrow, straight silhouette on your body.
