Best Mens Slim Pants with Small Leg Openings
If you are a man with skinny legs and ankles, you know that it is hard to buy pants that your legs won’t swim in. I am right there with you: I have tiny, eight inch ankles.
Buying pants that look good around your ankles off-the-rack is hard. Many skinny men think that they have weird body shapes. They think that brands only make pants for “normal people”.
Here’s the secret: nobody has a “normal” shape.
The real reason it is so hard to find jeans that look great on skinny guys is because clothing brands create clothes that fit their average customer best. That creates a few problems:
Brands do not tell you who their average shopper is. That means there is no way to know if the customer they have in mind when designing clothes is shaped like you.
Brands make a ton of different clothing fits. The only way to know which fit, if any, is best for you is to try them all on. That is WAY too big a time commitment.
There are over one hundred thousand clothing brands worldwide. Skinny guys like us would have to spend years trying on pants from every clothing brand to find the best one for their smaller legs.
Most pants are not made for guys with skinny legs, because most men don’t have skinny legs!
As a skinny guy myself, I have always opted for skinny fit jeans. My go-to jeans have been Levi’s 510 and Naked & Famous Super Skinny Guy, both available on Amazon. While your legs will not swim in skinny jeans, you run the risk of looking overly skinny.
Recently, I have found slim fit jeans to be a happy in-between for a few reasons
The leg is still cut very small. If you buy the right slim fit jean, you will not be swimming in it.
The leg is usually bigger than a skinny fit jean. That means there is less risk that you look too skinny when wearing your slim fit pants.
Slim fit pants are less subject to changing fashion trends. Everybody should wear whatever they are most comfortable in, regardless of the trend. It is good, however, to have some pieces that weather changing trends.
Be warned, however: not all slim fit jeans are alike. Like I said, brands make their pants for their average customer. That means that one brand’s slim fit might fit like another brand’s regular fit or skinny fit. It all depends on how big their average customer is.
If you are a skinny man, the best type of slim fit jean is one that has a small leg opening. That way, there is not too much room around the ankles.
When I started getting serious about shopping for pants, I started measuring the pants I bought. I kept a list of my favorite pants, and I branched out to other brands by comparing measurements. It saved me a lot of time in the fitting room, but it took a lot of investment. I don’t suggest you do the same. It takes way too much time, and you have to become an expert in pant construction to make it work.
That’s why I’ve put together a list of the “slimmest” slim fit pants. Every pant you see here is perfect for skinny men because the opening around the ankles is very small.
The jean in grey is an average waist size 32 slim jean, and the jean in navy is an outline of our recommended slim jean in a size 32.
